App Indexing
What is App Indexing?
App Indexing allows Google to index apps in the same way that it indexes websites. Deep links to your Android app appear in Google Search results, allowing users to quickly access your native mobile experience and land on the right content within your app.
What are the advantages of app indexing?
Using the app indexing strategy is a great way to attract new users to your app in various “locations” on the internet. Thus, through applinks, your app can be offered in a store search or even in web searches such as those conducted on Google.
This allows you to implement various marketing strategies to help the public find your website and, as a result, your online business. In this case, content must be optimized for both the app and the website, i.e. ASO and SEO.
App indexing for App Store and Google store:
Keywords and keyword combinations can only be indexed from metadata on the App Store, such as the app title, subtitle, keywords field, developer’s name, or internal purchases. The entire description will not be indexed. Furthermore, multiple localizations can be indexed in a single country at the same time.
On Google Play, the algorithms will look for metadata from other localizations, categories, tags, reviews, and even the developer’s email address.

How long does App take to be indexed?
The indexing results are usually visible the next day after the text update. If this is a new app release, the app’s ranking will rise for the first two weeks. In other words, high rankings for indexed keyword queries. This is how the App Store assists new users.
This is linked to a life hack. You can name your app using the formula “popular keyword + unique relevant phrase.” Apple will include the app title in search suggestions once it is published. If a user begins typing a popular keyword, the app title will appear among the suggested keywords. If it is relevant to the query, the user will click on it, increasing the popularity of that one-of-a-kind phrase. Because the app’s title is the same, for that specific query, the app will rank first.
Indexing ASO hacks.
- If you have a new app that hasn’t yet been indexed, use a direct link to install it. The indexing process will then begin. The problem is that Google Play does not always recognize new apps right away and requires assistance. At the same time, it is unknown which keywords will be used and where you will rank.
- Google Play combats spammed metadata (if you use a keyword more than three times). If you repeat the keyword several times, your ranking will not improve.
- Keyword symbols will not be treated as spaces in the App Store. That is, the search terms «photo editor» and «photo editor:» will yield different results. Diacritics, such as «factura fácil» and «factura facil», will be indexed differently as well. Using special characters in your metadata to be indexed, on the other hand, is not required. The store is very likely to index your app using those keywords with special characters; words remain the most important thing. However, the keyword version in your metadata usually improves your ranking.
- There’s a lot of evidence that Google Play indexes text in screenshots as well.
